boys
I’m finally taking some time out to write a post. I find it hard to gather my thoughts here lately as I’m always coming up with posts in my head while driving or drifting off to sleep but they evaporate before I actually make it to the computer to post. It seems like this has become all about the boys when that’s only because I know their grandparents read the blog. Really, I didn’t create the blog to be for the grandparents’ benefit or anyone else’s benefit; I started it for me to have a place to vent my thoughts — to get them out of my head and “jot them down” so to speak. And I’ve gotten away from that. I think partly because I’m afraid of what opinions may form because of what I have to say and partly because I feel like I am expected (at least a little bit) to keep family updated via the website about the boys and their growing up.
So, the obligatory boys’ info – James is way into lightening. Not Lightening McQueen but real life lightening with thunder. He is 100% boy and loves playing outside and getting dirty. Really dirty. Though, he does enjoy pushing a stroller around (as a kind of weapon that he can smash into bushes and go over bumps with) so I spent the $50 on a good quality doll stroller that I could probably have found at a yard sale for $1 but c’mon. I just don’t do yard sales these days with a baby in the household, there were none listed on craigslist and I simply do not have the patience to go gallivanting all around Greater Austin looking through second-hand kid stores. (many of which have recently closed — only to find out upon driving to them to be disappointed) His command of the English language is blowing us away every few days. We are in awe of his ability to clearly communicate his thoughts, desires, observations and imagination. He’s already learned that Mommy is easier to manipulate than Daddy and so whines more for me than for David, which annoys me to no end (hence the being easier to manipulate – I give in so he’ll be quiet)… and I think James is an excellent big brother. He’s constantly bringing Lowell “baby toys” and loves dumping all 10 “buckets” of baby toys out for Lowell to play with. I know why Lowell is 9 months old and not crawling; he doesn’t need to! James brings all the toys right to him, and loves feeding him cheerios and crispex! Why crawl if you get everything hand delivered right to you?
Which brings me to Lowell. I decided today upon driving home from a fall festival that Lowell is just a super-concentrated boiled-down adult. Here are some labels for him (though I will add the disclaimer that they do not always apply) — intense, high maintenance, purposeful, opinionated. And right now, awake. Thus ends my post as the keyboard is insanely LOUD and Lowell does need it quiet around here at night.
WELCOME
Hi there. Welcome to davejenbarnes.com! This is a story of a guy & a gal who fell in love, got married, and settled in the the ATX area.
