We’ve had a dead car in our driveway for five months. Thankfully, we don’t owe anything on it, so we weren’t making payments on a dead car. We own that dead car. But it’s dead. And it’s a car. And it was in the driveway. For five months. It died the night I gave birth to Korben. At the movie theater. At 11 pm. I was in labor. We were stranded.

The car died at the movie theater. I didn’t give birth at the movie theater. hee hee

This car has been with us for awhile. It’s also somewhat of a trouble maker. I think a five month time-out served it right.

David’s been parking on the street and we’re ready to get our driveway spot back. Don’t ask me why we don’t park in the [one car] garage. You don’t want to get me started.

So, we had it towed to the shop this morning. It needs a new ignition key thingy. When we get it back we will have two keys for it. One for the doors and trunk and the other to start it. This car just keeps on getting quirkier and quirkier.

Hopefully it will be someone else’s quirky car soon.

UPDATE – $490 for the repair but they’re rekeying the doors and trunk, too so it will still be a one-key car.

My Oldsmobile had different keys for the doors/trunk and ignition. It was not all that bad. I hope you get your car back and sold soon!

Eli called me one day during March 2008, stranded up at the law school because the key wouldn’t turn in the ignition to the Saturn (2000 SL). We had to have it towed and they took apart the steering column to “fix” it. Now it works, but the alarm doesn’t sound when the keys are in the ignition or when the lights are on, and the the light doesn’t come on when the driver side door opens–all stemming from that ignition problem, and all contributing to my woes during this pregnancy. We like Saturns, but…we’ll be getting something else next time?

Saturns are supposed to be relatively easy to re-sell, so good luck and I hope that goes well!

    This one’s a 2000 LS. Ended up a $500 repair.
