When you’ve just survived a week of 105ºF – 112ºF temperatures, you can probably bet that your electric bill is going to be high. And water bill. Even without the usage charges, our water bill starts at a lovely $80 so we know it’s gonna be high. But I didn’t sit down to gripe about the bills, believe it or not. I hoped on the blog to write up the first post since changing the template! Woo hoo!

(yes, my boys push around pink strollers and I’m not afraid to photograph them, though the stroller pics here were taken by Dave)

David has been off for one week (four more to go) of his summer break and we didn’t do a thing except putz around inside all day, wallowing in the sweet sweet conditioned air of the indoors. We do venture out in the evenings, when the front yard is in the shade. The new [metal] sprinkler quenched the lawn’s thirst and entertained the boys for a wee bit while we roasted outside. And I feel guilty about not getting out more. But the heat!

I’m actually researching a homeschool curriculum whose author (creator? inspiration? source? philosopher?) encourages crazy amounts of outdoor time (4-6 hours per day) for kids through about age 6 or 7 with no formal lessons as Nature teaches them to observe, to learn, to love. It’s pretty inspiring but I’m still not going outside in this heat. You can’t make me. Though, I do feel guilty about the not-getting-enough-outdoors-time for the boys. They thrive outside. Except when it’s 110ºF.

I’m sorry these pictures really have nothing to do with my little paragraphs. They’re cute aren’t they? Love those boys!
