I ordered (with my alloted spending money for the month) some new knitting needles because I needed various sizes for my next project and didn’t want to buy them individually. So I ended up ordering the Denise set and casting on the 88 stitches for the size L Curly Purly soaker pattern that night. After getting about halfway through the pattern and realizing some mistakes I had made while knitting after midnight, I ripped it all out and started over. Needless to say, the third time starting it was the best and I have only six more rows of ribbing for the left leg opening and I’m done!

I cast on 88 stitches on size 10 needles for a stretchy waist using some cheap cheap yarn (Wool-Ease) which I might end up paying for in soaker-ability, but I don’t care as I’m not making them for overnight soakers or anything… just to get a feel for the pattern really. After casting on, I immediately switched to US5, 17 inch circ. needles and knitted the ribbing. When the pattern called for the size change, I found it very easy to switch to US7′s then US9′s with the Denise interchangeable set of needles. I also used the circular needles to pick up stitches for the leg cuffs but find knitting the ribbing with US5 DPNs much easier than the magic loop method on a longer cable. I don’t know if that’s due to the thickness of the Denise cable or my unfamiliarity with knitting, but I like the result I have gotten with the DPNs.

Yes, I still have the blue longies on the needles… I’m about 75% done with those but find knitting in the round so much easier. I’ll blog again about the things I’ve learned in knitting up this pattern but for now, I’m anxious to get back to that leg cuff and get the thing finished! Woo hoo!

UPDATE – it’s done!!
